S. Haudenschild Earns WoO Rookie of the Year
Sheldon Haudenschild had an impressive breakout season with the World of Outlaws Craftsmen Sprint Cars in 2017. Joined by crew chief Bonzai Bruns, Haudenschild found himself on the podium multiple times throughout the season. The 24-year-old Ohio native acted as driver and owner of the Haudenschild Racing #93, managing the team, and competing in the highest level of sprint car competition in the world.
Mid-way through the schedule, Sheldon was joined by father, Jac Haudenschild, who was hired onto the Stenhouse- Wood team. “It’s been a dream of ours for a long time,” Sheldon said. “Not a lot of people get to say they’ve raced at the highest competition level in the world with their dad. It means so much to me, and to be able to do it is unreal.” The duo started side-by-side on row two of Kings Royal XXXIV, after winning their respective heat races. Jac spoke on the season, “It was cool to start next to Sheldon at the Kings Royal, to race him on the track, and to see him first-hand on his first year with The Outlaws. I told him the competition would be tough, and he did a great job.”
Throughout the year, Sheldon and Team 93 proved themselves as contenders, clocking in 12 top 5 finishes, and 41 top 10 finishes. The rookie finished 7th in overall points with The World of Outlaws, earning him the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year title for the 2017 season. Upcoming plans for Sheldon will be released as determined.
